Contextualizing Queer Histories & Archives: Legacies of Activism, Resistance, and Solidarity

Friday, February 9, 2024 at 4:00 PM until 5:00 PMPacific Standard Time UTC -08:00

The Global Campus LGBTQ+ Club invites you to a virtual event on Zoom, featuring Josie Cohen-Rodriguez (she/they) the Coordinator for WSU’s LGBTQ+ Center in Pullman and co-founder of the WSU Queer Archives. In this talk, Josie will share some of her research and will cover a broad range of queer histories ranging from the role of colonization towards the policing of gender, to the first trans clinic and research institute in pre-war Germany. Related to trans histories, she will discuss the pathologization of gender/sexuality post-WWII, and the limitations it has created for queer communities as they navigate healthcare systems towards bodily autonomy and self-determination. Finally, she will close with a discussion of how contemporary community/place-based queer archives throughout the Pacific Northwest challenge and expand ways in which we can conceptualize diverse histories.
